My Island Trip @ Little Boracay

One of my unforgettable trips last year 2008 was at the Island of Santa Maria Davao Del Sur, best known as the "Little Boracay of Davao del Sur". Well if you find Boracay Resort at Aklan Province in Visayas as an expensive one, well just try and hop in at Little Boracay for sure your family will still enjoy the vacation. My friend actually invited me to come with his boyfreind's bro and it so happened that the owner of "Little Boracay Resort" was there friend as well, also coming with us and lead us there. Its actually two hours from Davao City if you got your own car but if you will commute I guess it will take you three hours from Davao City.We are all 13 trippers just me and my friend are the ladies and the rest are guys.We arrived at the resort 6:30PM already , we had our dinner and after that we had a campfire. It was so fun we take 1hour to light the fire. I guess nobody is Boyscout or GirlScout in the group.Hahaha ..Funny yong isang guy na kasama ko pumitas ng mga dahon sa Talisay tree. Heeler!! " dili kaya na mosiga ang dahon kung dili laya". bwaaahahaha There is actually two other families in the resort who had their overnight stay as well. We woke up 5:30 in the morning and we plan to go to the other Island called " VIRGIN ISLAND".We ride a "bangka" its the only ride in order to get there, maybe 30mins from Little Boracay Resort. They said there is a Vanishing Island there , but sad as we expected , no vanishing Island was found because its High Tide. Hmmmmm... but still you will appreciate the Virgin Island .. really why is it called Virgin Island?? because nobody lives there and its rarely visited by people and its not yet developed. But the beach was clean and you can see big waves coming over and over.. woohhhhh... at first i am really afraid 'coz when we arrived there the weather just turn out badly. We stayed there for 5 hours and had our swimming we just waited also for the sea to calm down.We actually enjoy the big waves and had our picture takings. Others play ski boarding..it was really fun. Wheeewww!! good thing we get back at the resort safely. One of a kind experience that I would never forget.

"Misa del Gallo"

Misa del Gallo is the spanish phrase for "Midnight Mass" or in Filipino "Simbang Gabi". It is also translated as "Rooster Mass". many believes that the rooster have been among the first witness to the birth of our savior Jesus Christ and thus be the one to announce it. Simbang Gabi is one of the longest Filipino traditions in the country. It is a nine-day novena to our Blessed Mother Mary. The novena begins December 16 shortly before the break of dawn. This Filipino tradition originated in Mexico when in 1587, the Pope granted the petition of Fray Diego de Sorea, prior of the convent of San Agustin Acolman , to hold Christmas mass outdoors because the church could not accommodate large number of people who attended tha mass. During the old times , the pre-dawn mass is announced by the ringing of the church bells or "Tunog ng Kampana ".Many of the farmers and fisherman in the old times wake up early to hear the Gospel before going to their work and ask for the grace of good harvest. Part of the traditions are the colorful christmas lights and "parol" that hungs in every window . And shortly after the mass before going home you can't resist to taste and have a cup of Tsokolate and a piece of bibingka or puto bungbong outside the church . This are just one of the delicious delicacies made in Philippines. Many also believes that when you have attended the 9-day morning mass all your wishes will come true. Believe it or not what ever beliefs that we have , the most important thing is that the Faith still remains in our hearts and in our minds. I guess many of our fellow filipino overseas miss this tradition that we have. Maligayang Pasko kaibigan !
